In a surprising but welcome turn of events, the LG G4 now officially supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0, the technology that can help Snapdragon-powered smartphones juice up faster. The G4 is currently officially showing on Qualcomm's Quick Charge 2.0 pages, and we've received confirmation in the smartphone's manufacturer too.
The apparent not enough the Quick Charge feature — explicitly told to us on the launch in New York as not being up to speed the LG — was tempered slightly become the fact that you'll be able to swap out of the G4's 3,000 mAh battery to get a fresh one in your leisure. But it still was an unusual omission. If we was required to guess, it's probably just a matter of timing — the G4 will be the first phone to work with the Snapdragon 808 processor, and often engineering readiness and launch dates don't always match. It wouldn't function as first time. And we're still several weeks far from retail accessibility to the G4 in the United States and elsewhere.
As for many people, we're using pre-production models (and software) with the G4. And while, yes, it charges faster with thanks to the 1.8A wall wart, we have not experienced exactly the same sort of Quick Charge speeds we've enjoyed around the likes from the Moto X, Nexus 6, HTC One M8 and M9, Samsung Galaxy S6 yet others. Will a software update open things up for many people before release? Or in time for that release versions? We'll should see.
